Short answer: to find a cheap flight from Israel to Greece, start with a comparison engine such as Google Flights or Skyscanner, then compare the final price including baggage on the airline's own website. If your dates are flexible, add price tracking or a last-minute deals app such as Hulyo. A direct flight from Ben Gurion to Athens takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, and the route is served by Israeli airlines, Greece's flag carrier Aegean and low-cost airlines. This guide walks through each tool, explains what a cheap ticket really includes, and covers what you are owed if your flight is delayed or cancelled.
Who flies direct from Israel to Greece
Greece is one of the closest and best-connected destinations from Israel, with direct flights to Athens and to the islands. Schedules change between summer and winter, so treat this table as a starting point and check the route on the airline's own website before booking.
| Destination | Airlines with direct flights from Ben Gurion (as published in 2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Athens | El Al, Israir, Aegean, Wizz Air, Blue Bird and others | The busiest route, runs year-round |
| Thessaloniki | Mainly Israir and Aegean | Mostly in summer |
| Rhodes and Heraklion (Crete) | El Al, Israir, Arkia, Aegean and Blue Bird | Some routes are seasonal |
| Chania (Crete) | Blue Bird | Seasonal |
| Corfu, Mykonos and other islands | Arkia, Israir and other airlines | Seasonal, mainly spring and summer |
Islands without a direct flight are usually reached via Athens, either on a domestic connecting flight or by ferry from Piraeus or Rafina.
How much does a flight to Greece cost?
There is no fixed price. Fares depend on the season, the day of the week, how far ahead you book and how many seats are left. One example: on 23 October 2026, Aegean's fare calendar for Tel Aviv to Athens showed one-way fares from €80 for October to December 2026 and from €59 for January to March 2027. Fares like these are for a limited number of seats in the basic fare, and they do not necessarily include a checked bag.
Three things almost always push the price up:
- Israeli holidays: Sukkot, Passover and the summer school holidays are when most Israelis travel, and fares rise accordingly.
- Weekends: a flight out on Thursday and back on Saturday night usually costs more than one in the middle of the week.
- Extras: a cabin trolley, a checked bag and seat selection can double the price of a low-cost ticket.
Google Flights: the best tool for comparing dates
Google Flights is Google's flight search engine. It does not sell tickets: it shows fares from airlines and agencies and sends you to book with them. Its strength is showing very quickly how the price changes from one date to another.
- Date grid: a table with the fare for every combination of departure and return day. If you can move a day or two, you see at once which combination is cheaper.
- Price graph: shows how fares move over weeks and months. Useful when you have not decided when to go.
- Price insights: Google says whether the current fare is low, typical or high compared with past fares on the route, and sometimes whether it is likely to rise. Google notes these predictions are based on past trends and are not guaranteed.
- Track prices: turn on tracking for a route and dates, or for "any dates", and get an email when the fare drops.
- Explore map: enter Tel Aviv as your origin and see on a map what it costs to fly to each destination, so you can compare Athens, Rhodes and Crete at a glance.
Tip: set the number of bags in the filter next to the search box before you compare. Without it, Google Flights shows the base fare, and a low-cost airline can look cheaper than it really is.
Skyscanner: "Everywhere" and "Whole month" searches
Skyscanner is a flight comparison engine that searches airlines and online travel agencies. As with Google Flights, the booking itself usually happens with the airline or with the agency you are sent to from the results. It has two tools that are especially useful if you are flexible:
- Everywhere search: type "Everywhere" in the destination field and get a list of destinations sorted by price. If you want "somewhere in Greece" and do not mind where, start here.
- "Whole month" and "Cheapest month": instead of exact dates, pick a whole month and Skyscanner shows a calendar with the cheapest fare it found for each day. Skyscanner says these calendar prices come from recent searches, so the final price may change when you click a date.
- Price alerts: save a search and get notified when the price changes.
Watch out for agencies: sometimes the cheapest result on Skyscanner comes from an online agency you have never heard of. The saving can be small, but if you need to cancel, change or sort out a problem, you will deal with the agency rather than the airline. When the difference is small, booking directly with the airline is usually the better choice.
Secret Flights: an Israeli search engine with deals
Secret Flights (in Hebrew, "Tisot Sodiyot") is an Israeli flight search engine, in Hebrew. According to the site, you can search flights from Tel Aviv and Haifa on exact or flexible dates (one or two days either side), by length of stay from one to seven nights or weekends only, and filter for direct flights only.
What sets it apart:
- Deals by destination: the site lists cheap destinations, last-minute trips and popular routes with a starting price. Prices are shown in US dollars.
- Price alerts: after signing in you can get alerts when prices drop.
- WhatsApp group: the site promotes a WhatsApp group where deals are shared.
- Premium plan: there is a paid club linked to a credit card. Read the terms before joining and check whether the benefits fit how often you fly.
Secret Flights is most useful for seeing what is cheap from Israel right now, or for finding a short weekend in Athens. Before booking, check the same flight on Google Flights and on the airline's website.
Hulyo: for spontaneous travellers who can leave within days
Hulyo is an Israeli app and website, in Hebrew, for last-minute deals: flights abroad, holiday packages, hotels in Israel and show tickets. Its App Store description says its flights are last-minute flights, up to seven days before departure.
The idea is simple: an empty seat that is not sold by take-off is a loss for the airline, so in the last days before a flight seats can sometimes be found at a low price. Reports from around the app's launch said deals to popular destinations could sell out within minutes.
Who it suits: travellers who can pack and leave within a few days and are not set on one destination. Greece is a good fit, because there are many scheduled and charter flights to it from Israel.
Before you buy:
- Check whether a checked bag is included and what the weight limit is.
- Read the cancellation terms. Last-minute deals usually have strict ones.
- If it is a package with a hotel, check exactly where the hotel is and what is included.
- Make sure your passport is valid and that you will have time to arrange travel insurance and mobile data in Greece.
What is a low-cost flight, and what does the ticket really include?
A low-cost flight is a flight on a budget airline that sells a basic ticket at a low price and charges separately for everything else: a cabin trolley, a checked bag, seat selection, food and sometimes even airport check-in. Wizz Air is among the low-cost airlines on the Israel to Greece route today. Some full-service airlines, such as Aegean, also sell basic fares that do not include a checked bag.
Example: what Wizz Air's basic ticket includes
- One free bag: up to 40x30x20 cm and up to 10 kg. It must fit under the seat in front of you. According to Wizz Air, wheels may add up to 5 cm and handles are not counted.
- Trolley: a bag up to 55x40x23 cm goes in the overhead bin only with WIZZ Priority, which is paid for separately.
- Oversized bag at the gate: if your bag is over the limit, you pay at the boarding gate, usually more than you would have paid when booking.
Other airlines have different sizes and weights, and they change from time to time. Always check the baggage page of the airline you are flying with.
How to compare a low-cost airline with a full-service one: work out the final price for what you will actually take. A €60 ticket without a bag can reach €120 or more with a bag and a seat, and at that point the difference from a full-service fare that includes a bag can be very small.
Charter flights, packages and separate tickets
- Charter flights: flights that travel agencies book in advance, mainly to the islands in summer. They are sold mostly in packages or through agencies, and they do not always appear in search engines.
- Flight and hotel packages: sometimes cheaper than booking separately, especially at the last minute. Compare with booking the same hotel on its own.
- Two separate tickets: for example, Tel Aviv to Athens with one airline and a domestic flight to an island with another. This can save money, but if the first flight is delayed and you miss the second, the second airline owes you nothing. If you go this way, leave a generous connection time, and remember you will need to collect your bag and check it in again.
- Hidden-city ticketing: a trick where you buy a ticket with a stopover and get off at the stopover. Airlines prohibit it in their conditions of carriage and can cancel the rest of your ticket, including the return flight. We do not recommend it.
When should you book a flight to Greece?
There is no magic day when flights are cheapest. What does work:
- Check the price graph on Google Flights to see whether the current fare is low or high compared with usual.
- Turn on price tracking as soon as you have rough dates, and do not wait for the last minute if you are flying during holidays or in summer.
- Be flexible by a day or two: the Google Flights date grid or Skyscanner's "Whole month" shows whether a small shift saves money.
- If you are fully flexible, you can wait for last-minute deals on Hulyo or Secret Flights, but it is a gamble: at busy times the price can also go up.

What are you owed if your flight is delayed or cancelled?
On a flight to or from Israel, Israel's Aviation Services Law (also known as the "Tibi Law") applies:
- Delay of two hours or more: the airline must give you food, drinks and means of communication.
- Delay of five hours or more: you can choose between a refund and an alternative ticket.
- Delay of more than eight hours: treated as a cancellation.
- Cash compensation for a cancellation: according to Kol Zchut, for a flight of up to 2,000 km (such as Tel Aviv to Athens) the full compensation in 2026 is ₪1,530 per passenger. In some cases the airline may cut it by half, for example when it offers an alternative flight that arrives shortly after the original one.
- Extraordinary circumstances: when the cancellation is caused by circumstances outside the airline's control, such as the security situation or weather, the airline does not have to pay cash compensation, but it still owes you a refund or an alternative flight.
On a flight departing from Greece, EU Regulation 261 also applies, on any airline. For a flight of up to 1,500 km, such as Athens to Tel Aviv, compensation for a cancellation or for arriving three or more hours late is €250 per passenger, again except in extraordinary circumstances.
These rules are updated from time to time, so before you file a claim, check the current amounts with Kol Zchut or the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel.
Before you fly: passport, entering Europe and mobile data
- Visa: Israelis enter Greece, which is part of the Schengen Area, without a visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
- EES: since 10 April 2026 the EU's new Entry/Exit System has been fully running in all Schengen countries. On your first entry, travellers from outside the EU have their fingerprints scanned and their face photographed, so passport control can take longer. Allow for this if you have a connecting flight.
- ETIAS: the EU's electronic travel authorisation is not running yet. As of October 2026 no start date has been announced, so you do not need to apply for now. Follow the official EU website, travel-europe.europa.eu.
- Data from the moment you land: to open maps, order a taxi or check your connecting flight while still at the airport, install a FlySim eSIM for Greece before you leave home. Here we explain exactly when to install the eSIM, and here are our eSIM tips before your flight.
- Apps: your airline's app (for your boarding pass and delay updates) and Greece's transport apps. We collected them in our guide to must-have apps for Greece.
