A Turkey eSIM costs from $1.29 (3GB for 30 days) to $9.06 (20GB for 30 days) and runs on Aycell and Türk Telekom with 5G. There's also an unlimited plan at $1.94 a day, for 3 to 90 days. Validity starts on your first connection in Turkey, not on the day you buy, and your home number stays active for WhatsApp. You can share data over hotspot. Plans are data only; calls go through WhatsApp or other apps.

Turkey spans two continents, making it a popular layover stop as well as a standalone destination. If your route also includes neighboring Greece or Bulgaria, a regional plan may work out cheaper than buying a separate local plan for each country.

In Turkey the plan runs on Türk Telekom and Aycell, both with 5G. There's no need for a local SIM; the phone connects to whichever network is strongest in the area.

In Istanbul the metro, trams, buses and Bosphorus ferries are paid with an Istanbulkart, sold and topped up at machines in the stations. Taxis are booked through BiTaksi or Uber, which in Istanbul sends a regular yellow taxi.

Which networks does the Turkey eSIM use?

It depends on the plan you pick. The 5GB, 10GB and 20GB plans run on Türk Telekom and Aycell, and the 3GB plan on Avea and Vodafone, all with 5G.

How long are the Turkey plans valid?

Every Turkey plan is valid for 30 days, counted from the first connection in Turkey, not from purchase.

Is the eSIM worth it for a layover in Istanbul?

Yes, if you're leaving the airport. The smallest plan is enough for maps, rides and messages on a one- or two-day stopover.

Is there an unlimited data plan for Turkey?

Yes. The unlimited plan is priced per day, from 3 to 90 days, with full-speed data up to 3GB a day and a lower speed after that. Hotspot may not work on it.

Are eSIM, digital SIM, and virtual SIM all the same thing?

Yes. An eSIM (also called a digital SIM or virtual SIM) is a SIM with no physical component, installed on your device by scanning a QR code instead of inserting a card. You use it exactly like a regular SIM for data abroad, without hunting for a SIM kiosk at your destination.

Does my device support eSIM technology?

Most smartphones released in the last five years support eSIM. We recommend checking your device settings, or looking up your phone model in the FlySim compatibility checker. Open the compatibility checker

How exactly does activation work?

After payment, you'll receive a unique QR code by email. Scan it in your device's cellular settings (Add eSIM), confirm, and that's it.
